We seek to appoint three temporary, full-time Teaching Fellows within the School of Geography & Sustainable Development. These posts are available from 1st September 2017 and are fixed-term appointments.

We invite applications from highly motivated individuals with interests in Human Geography and /or Sustainable Development and a commitment to excellence in teaching.  You will contribute to the highly successful undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes in Sustainable Development and Geography at St Andrews within the School of Geography and Sustainable Development.  The positions are fixed term, full-time for periods of 12 (HG – mixed methods, inequality; SD) and 3 (HG – qualitative methods, geographic theory) months, starting in September 2017, or as soon as possible thereafter.

You will contribute to various elements of the Geography and Sustainable Development programmes, with opportunities to interact with our excellent research cluster in this area.

Your role will involve engaging the interest and motivation of students, and inspiring them to learn by fostering debate and developing their ability to engage in critical discourse and rational thinking.  You will work as either a member of the Sustainable Development or Geography team under the overall direction of the School’s Director of Teaching, reporting to the Head of School.  You will be encouraged to seek ways to improve performance by reflecting on teaching design and delivery, and by analysing feedback.  You will have excellent organisational and administrative skills, and the ability to communicate complex information and ideas effectively.

You will have completed, or be about to complete, a PhD in Geography, Sustainable Development or a related area.  Those with research & teaching interests in any area of Human Geography/Sustainable Development will be considered. Some experience with a range of teaching formats, including lectures, tutorials, seminars, field classes and the supervision of group work, would be an advantage, as would experience of teaching within the Scottish university system.
