Research Fellow in Luminescence Dating – AR2312DD
School of Earth & Environmental Sciences

School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Salary: £33,797 per annum, Start Date: As soon as possible, Fixed Term: 24 months

Applications are invited for a Research Fellow in Luminescence Dating to join the Arts and Humanities Research Councils funded project – ‘TerraSAgE: Terraces as Sustainable Agricultural Environments’, starting January 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter. This is a joint project between the Universities of St Andrews, Newcastle and Granada, led by Prof Sam Turner (Newcastle University).

This is an excellent opportunity for a dynamic and dedicated researcher to work on a multi-disciplinary project, combining historical and geo-archaeological research to transform our knowledge of the role and values of agricultural terraces within wider landscape-histories. Three post-doctoral researchers will work on TerraSAgE, one will be based in St Andrews at the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences (SEES), the others based in Newcastle in the School of History, Classics and Archaeology.

The successful applicant will be expected to perform the full range of fieldwork and laboratory tasks required for luminescence dating: including sampling; sample preparation; luminescence analysis and dating processing; dose rate determinations and analysis; production of reports and publications.

The applicant will report to Dr Tim Kinnaird (co-I) and Prof Adrian Finch (University of St Andrews), and the management team at the Universities of Newcastle (Prof Sam Turner, P-I; Dr Lisa-Marie Shillito, Co-I; Dr Francesco Carrer) and Granada (Prof Jose Maria Martin Civantos, co-I).

The University is committed to equality for all, demonstrated through our working on diversity awards (ECU Athena SWAN/Race Charters; Carer Positive; LGBT Charter; and Stonewall).  More details can be found at http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/hr/edi/diversityawards/.
