The University is seeking a dynamic and energetic individual to fulfil the key role of Bedellus (Head Janitor) within Estates.  The role entails the day to day management of the janitorial teams, including three Senior Janitors, as well as having responsibility for the University mail room, which is run by a Mail Supervisor and three staff.  The janitorial teams provide a range of services which support the efficient running of buildings, including room set-ups, minor maintenance, fire alarm testing and building and Estate security. 

A further important aspect of this post is the ceremonial role of the Bedellus, who leads the University Mace bearing team at official functions and ceremonies, including all graduations.  The Bedellus is responsible for managing this team of volunteer janitors, and also personally undertakes an important role in each graduation ceremony.

Candidates should be educated to Higher grade or equivalent, and be able to evidence experience of managing teams in a dynamic working environment.  With excellent communication skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision, candidates should also have significant experience of uniformed ceremonial duties for which a military or related background would be an advantage.
