School of Biology, Salary: £32,004 - £38,183 per annum, Start Date: 1 July 2017, or some other date to be mutually agreed, Fixed Term: 24 months

Applications are invited for a Research Fellow in Phylogenetic Comparative Analyses to work with Professor Kevin Laland at the University of St Andrews investigating adaptive trends and parallel evolution generated by niche construction.

The successful candidate will work with a team of researchers currently collecting data on nest construction by fish, birds and mammals, and silk use in spiders. The successful candidate will test evolutionary hypotheses by subjecting this data to statistical analyses using comparative phylogenetic tools. The project is part of a larger research programme, called “Putting the Extended Evolutionary Synthesis to the Test”, funded through a major grant from the John Templeton Foundation. Successful applicants will join an international team of over 50 world-leading researchers who collectively will be studying evolutionary biology through a variety of experimental, mathematical and statistical analyses.

The successful candidate should have a good degree in biology, or in another relevant discipline. A PhD in evolutionary biology, or another relevant discipline.

The post is available until 31 May 2019 and will start as soon as possible.
