Research Fellow – AR2336MR

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to work under the shared supervision of Dr Gordon Florence and Professor Rebecca Goss within the School of Chemistry and Biomedical Sciences Research Complex. The position is funded by the EPSRC and forms part of a multidisciplinary project focused on establishing sustainable antibiotic production and discovery capabilities with partners in Tanzania, Kenya and Nigeria. The post holder will lead efforts in the production of semi-synthetic antibiotics involving fermentative natural product production and synthetic chemistry.

You will have a PhD in either synthetic organic chemistry with experience of complex molecule synthesis or biosynthetic natural product generation with experience in fermentative production, isolation and characterisation. Over the duration of the project the post holder will be required to undertake field trips and participate in training workshops across our African partners institutes, so a willingness to travel is essential. The post is available from 1 May 2020, or as soon as possible thereafter, for one year in the first instance with the possibility of extension by mutual agreement up to 18 months.

Further information and informal enquiries may be directed to Dr Gordon Florence, email: gjf1@st-andrews.ac.uk, Tel: 01334 463834 or Prof Rebecca Goss, email: rjmg@st-andrews.ac.uk, Tel: 01334 463856.
