Clinical Fellow in Tuberculosis Clinical Trials - AR2103MR

We are seeking to appoint a Clinical Research Fellow to Professor Gillespie’s research group to support the ongoing research activities of the Infection Group in the School of Medicine. The research project will target hospital-acquired infections (HAI) through the application of genomics. The purpose of the role will be to investigate the epidemiology of the predominant organisms causing HAI, developing a near real-time sequencing platform that will support rapid molecular diagnostics, and identify and target infection transmission in a hospital setting. The successful post holder will be handling whole genome sequencing data and perform phylogenomic data analysis. The background of the candidate will be preferably in microbiology, molecular biology and bioinformatics.

In June 2010 the School moved to a new Medical Building with excellent ‘state of the art’ research facilities. There is a large multi-user laboratory with facilities for microbiology, tissue culture and a wide range of molecular, immunological and biochemical tools. In addition there is a state of the art photonics suite that supports our world leading photonics research. Category three facilities are available in the Biological and Medical Research Centre, a newly opened wing of the highly successful Biological Sciences Research Centre where there is an extensive research programme in infection, structural biology and drug discovery. There is flexibility that may allow the successful candidate to work part-time or in a job share.

The University is committed to equality for all, demonstrated through our working on diversity awards (ECU Athena SWAN/Race Charters; Carer Positive; LGBT Charter; and Stonewall).  More details can be found at http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/hr/edi/diversityawards/.
