MASTS Impact and Forums Manager – AD2236GB

This exciting new role involves inspiring and enabling interdisciplinary marine research, identifying and promoting impact, outreach across levels, and other activities across the wider marine science community, including science social science and the arts, to address major challenges for the ocean environment, people and the planet. In the context of the climate and biodiversity crises, we seek to boost interdisciplinary cooperation and enable enhanced impact from the Sustainable Management of UK Marine Resources (SMMR programme) and through Marine Alliance for Science and Technology for Scotland (MASTS) networks. Reaching beyond ‘traditional’ routes to research impact, through new collaborations across disciplines and sectors, is a particular opportunity.

Knowledge of major challenges to, and sustainable solutions for, the marine environment and climate are essential. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are also essential, for invigorating new activity in others, and developing funding and collaborative opportunities with diverse sectors and disciplines. Experience across a broad range of issues and disciplines will be beneficial, from transdisciplinary research, the social sciences and/or policy. Candidates also require a passion and ambition for the ocean and a sustainable future for all, and a commitment to an evidence-based approach.

The hours of work are 36.25 hours per week fixed term until August 2024 with the possibility of extension thereafter (funding dependant). We are open to the role being delivered as a secondment; the role would be well suited to someone already working in a marine science / policy / conservation, but who would welcome the opportunity to develop greater depth and breadth in their professional network.

The post will be based at the Scottish Oceans Institute in St Andrews, where the SMMR/MASTS team are hosted.

This contract is for a fixed term as it is dependent on external funding. As such, the need for the post will cease to exist when funding runs out.

Applications are particularly welcome from women, people from the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) community, and other protected characteristics who are under-represented in professional posts at the University.
