Research Fellow in Prostate Cancer Proteomics – AR2703SB

Applications are sought for a Post-doctoral Research Fellow to work with Professor Andy Lynch to further our understanding of prostate cancer through the analysis and design of proteomic experiments.

The CRUK-funded Prostate International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC) project has, over a number of phases, determined the molecular profiles of >200 prostate cancers at the levels of DNA sequence, DNA methylation, mRNA and small RNA which have been and are being integrated with clinical and pathology data, as well as external data, to answer questions about cancer risk, cancer biology and the clinical management of cancer. We have, through this project and via additional sources generated protein pellets and proteomic data from multiple mass-spectrometry technologies. In recent years, this has formed part of the Panprostate Cancer Group (PPCG).

This post is to take forward the analysis of the proteomic data already generated to improve our understanding of prostate cancer, and to consider aspects of experimental design to plan future data generation. Additionally, we will integrate these data with the additional molecular data generated from these patients, and with cohorts from colleagues in the PPCG. The post-holder will be responsible for preparing manuscripts arising from their research, and also contributing to other manuscripts arising from the research consortia of which we are part.

The post holder will be able to take advantage of links with the School of Medicine and take part in programs for professional development.

The successful applicant will have (or be near to completion of) a PhD in Statistics/Bioinformatics/Computational Biology or similar with expertise in analysing large molecular datasets in a disease context.

The post is available for 24 months starting Autumn 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Further details of the project can be found by contacting Andy Lynch (andy.lynch@st-andrews.ac.uk).

Applications are particularly welcome from women, people from the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) community, and other protected characteristics who are under-represented in research posts at the University.

Equality, diversity and inclusion are at the heart of the St Andrews experience. We strive to create a fair and inclusive culture demonstrated through our commitment to diversity awards (Athena Swan, Carer Positive, LGBT Charter, Race Charters and Stonewall). We celebrate diversity by promoting profiles of BAME, LGBTIQ+ staff and supporting networks including the Staff BAME Network; Staff with Disabilities Network; Staff LGBTIQ+ Network; and the Staff Parents & Carers Network.
