Lecturer / Senior Lecturer / Reader in Terrestrial Environmental Earth Science –AC2103NB

The School of Earth and Environmental Sciences invites applications for a Lecturer / Senior Lecturer / Reader in Terrestrial Environmental Earth Science. We particularly welcome applicants with a focus on modern terrestrial environmental science and environmental change. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to the critical zone, biogeochemical cycling, environmental microbiology, environmental resources, hydrogeology, hydrochemistry, pollution mitigation/remediation and solutions-based research for a sustainable future.  

 

The successful candidate will hold a PhD in Earth and Environmental Science or a cognate discipline and complement our vibrant research which spans three themes: Climate, Society and Environment; Earth Resources and Sustainability; and Evolution of Planets and Life. They will develop an externally funded, innovative and impactful research programme and contribute research-led teaching.  

 

Experience in teaching undergraduate students is desirable for Lecturer applicants and required for Senior Lecturer/Reader applicants. The latter must also demonstrate a suitable combination of success in attracting external funding, research leadership at national and international level and experience with successfully carrying out administrative duties.  

 

*Appointment at Grade 8 Senior Lecturer / Reader level (salary range: £57,696 - £64,914 pa) will be considered for candidates with more experience/knowledge of the area with the job description to be amended accordingly.  

 

The School delivers two BSc Honours degrees (Geology, Environmental Earth Sciences), an integrated undergraduate Masters in Earth Science (MGeol), and two taught MSc programmes (Geochemistry, Strategic Earth Resources). We are noted for our experiential learning, including training in field, laboratory and modelling skills and the appointee will have opportunities to contribute to these aspects of degree delivery.
