The School of Modern Languages is seeking to recruit two Lecturers in Digital Humanities. These new positions will support the development of the School’s teaching and research in the field of Digital Humanities and, in particular, lead the design and delivery of a new online postgraduate programme.
The School of Modern Languages at St Andrews is one of the largest and most diverse of its kind in the UK. The School’s approach is underpinned by the belief that the acquiring of high-level language skills goes hand in hand with studying culture. The new Digital Humanities programmes will allow the School to take its reputation for teaching excellence to a wider audience than ever before.
The School is seeking candidates with a growing international research reputation in Digital Humanities and Modern Languages and/or Comparative Literature. Candidates’ area of academic expertise must include at least one of the languages taught in the School (Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Persian, Russian, and Spanish). Candidates should hold a PhD in a cognate discipline and a strong track record in research. Excellent teaching skills and an interest in promoting impact and knowledge exchange are essential. Candidates should have the skills needed to support the School’s digital teaching and learning strategy, including experience relevant to the design and delivery of innovative digital teaching materials and assessment methods.
It is anticipated that, initially, both role holders will be based at the University’s Eden Campus in Guardbridge allowing them to work closely with content developers. Following the launch of the new programmes, it is expected that both role holders would be relocated to School of Modern Languages in St Andrews town centre.
