The School of English seeks to appoint a Lecturer specializing in any aspect of American Literature. The School currently teaches American literature in a variety of contexts and periods, but the successful candidate will be expected to create new possibilities for American studies at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. This will involve the development of new research-led modules that will either complement existing areas, or open up new kinds of specialization within the School. As this is a new post, you will be expected, in the first year, to teach an established module EN4419, ‘American Fiction: Self and Nation 1865-1939’ (or a modified version of it) and, thereafter, to design and deliver your own honours modules in American literature. A specialism in or ability to teach ante-bellum or colonial period literature might be an advantage. You will also be expected to take a significant role in the development and delivery of at least one of the School’s MLitts, and to contribute to various other aspects of teaching at all levels within the School. You should have successfully completed a PhD in a relevant area and have an established record of high quality publications.
