Senior Lecturer or Lecturer in Mathematical Biology - AC2229SB

The University of St Andrews is seeking to enhance its research strengths in Applied Mathematics by appointing a new Senior Lecturer or Lecturer in the area of Mathematical Biology.  The successful candidate will be a scholar with a growing international research reputation in Mathematical Biology and commitment to delivering high quality teaching within the broad field of Applied Mathematics. We would particularly welcome applications from candidates whose research could link with existing strengths in St Andrews which include mathematical oncology, mathematical/computational biology, mathematical medicine and theoretical ecology.

Following the appointment of Professor Mark Chaplain to the Gregory Chair and the creation of the Mathematical Biology Research Group in 2015, the University is continuing to invest in and support the development of this research area. The successful candidate will join the School at an exciting time and be part of shaping the future development, strategy and growth of the Mathematical Biology Research Group. There is an expected commitment for the successful candidate to interact with colleagues in the Schools of Biology and Medicine and also the James Hutton Institute (http://www.hutton.ac.uk), developing interdisciplinary collaborative research projects. The successful candidate will also be involved in the development and delivery of the new MSc in Mathematical Biology, which will commence in September 2021.

Candidates should hold a PhD in applied mathematics (or a cognate discipline) and demonstrate excellent teaching skills.  They should also have familiarity with grant seeking processes in relation to research councils and other sources.

For informal enquiries, we encourage those considering applying to contact the Head of School, Professor Mark Chaplain (mathshos@st-andrews.ac.uk) or the Deputy Head of School, Professor Ineke De Moortel (idm2@st-andrews.ac.uk) to discuss possibilities.

The University is committed to equality for all, demonstrated through our working on diversity awards (ECU Athena SWAN/Race Charters; Carer Positive; LGBT Charter; and Stonewall).  More details can be found at http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/hr/edi/diversityawards/.
