The International
Education Institute (IE) at University of St Andrews is recruiting for a permanent
0.4 FTE Lecturer in TESOL and Academic English (Education Focused). We will
consider requests from applicants to fulfil the role remotely, on
a permanent basis, while based
elsewhere in the UK. Unfortunately, we are unable to consider applications to
fulfil the role while living outside of the UK.
This post provides the
opportunity to contribute to IE’s growing postgraduate TESOL programmes, which
include a substantial distance-learning cohort, as well as to provide support
to students across other Schools via our Academic English Service (AES). There
may also be opportunities to take on academic leadership roles within the
department, as well as to contribute to other areas of provision.
As the post may involve supervising students on a professional
doctorate programme, applicants should have a relevant doctoral qualification,
and experience of doctoral supervision.
The intended start
date for this position is 1 March 2021, or as soon as possible thereafter.
Why
work for IE?
IE has developed a
reputation within the UK and beyond as a centre of excellence for EAP (English
for Academic Purposes) teaching, and we host an annual conference of
international standing dedicated to this area of practice. Our dynamic and
experienced teaching team, which includes recent recipients of McCall MacBain
and University of St Andrews Teaching Excellence Awards, are involved in a wide
range of educational activities, and we have a strong culture of professional
development. While this is an education focused post, scholarly activity
relevant to learning and teaching is supported financially and factored into
workload modeling.
The successful
applicant will join IE at an exciting time of change, as we seek to grow further
our postgraduate TESOL provision.
St Andrews is one of
the oldest universities in the English-speaking world, and is consistently one
of the highest ranked institutions in the UK. The Guardian’s 2021 university
league table placed St Andrews 2nd overall in the UK, narrowly behind Oxford,
and ahead of Cambridge.
We are seeking
practitioners who enjoy taking on new challenges, and who have a strong
commitment to both their own and colleagues’ professional development.
Informal enquiries can be directed to the IE Director, Eoin Jordan (epj2@st-andrews.ac.uk)
Applications
are particularly welcome from women, people from the Black, Asian, Minority or
Ethnic (BAME) community and other protected characteristics who are
under-represented in Academic posts at the University.
The University is
committed to equality for all, demonstrated through our working on diversity
awards (ECU Athena SWAN/Race Charters; Carer Positive; LGBT Charter; and
