We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated, experienced individual to lead on the development phase of a nature conservation programme which will focus on engaging land managers to scope habitat enhancement and creation opportunities at a landscape-scale across East Fife.
The year long project is funded by Scottish Government’s Nature Restoration Fund and led by University of St Andrews and Transition University of St Andrews. The postholder will be responsible for developing a network of land managers and stakeholders, reviewing and groundtruthing ecological information, collaboratively scoping and co-designing interventions, and creating a masterplan of opportunities which would enhance biodiversity and Nature Networks in East Fife. The postholder will be responsible for co-ordinating successful implementation of the project.
The project builds on previous habitat connectivity projects led by the University on campus and with neighbouring land managers, and helps meet the University’s strategic objectives for sustainable, nature-positive land management as well as regional strategic objectives for biodiversity.
The postholder will have strong communication and people skills, as communication of aspirations and engagement with land managers - including farmers and private estates - is critical to the success of the project. The individual will have an ability to inspire and work collaboratively, ideally in the land management and conservation/environment sectors. Experience in project management is essential, as are strong organisational and IT skills, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team
The post is based within the Estates department, reporting to the Transition University of St Andrews Manager and working closely with the Environment Team, as well as a stakeholder steering group which will be established at project start. The project will require regular travel across East Fife.
The post is full-time and fixed term to 31 March 2027, however we would encourage interested applicants to get in touch to discuss alternative arrangements for implementing the function.
Employees of the University have access to a wide range of staff benefits including:
- Annual leave of 34 days, plus 5 public holidays
- Membership of the S&LAS Pension Scheme with generous employer contributions
- A hybrid working environment, including partial homeworking where appropriate and a range of family friendly policies
- Staff discount scheme for local and national goods and services
- Free staff parking, employee Carshare and Cycle to Work Schemes and subsidised local bus travel
- Subsidised sports membership, reduced tuition fees on degree programmes for staff, access to training and development opportunities including LinkedIn Learning, access to library facilities, salary sacrifice scheme
