Lecturer in Statistics – AC2286GB

The University of St Andrews is seeking to enhance its teaching and research strengths in Statistics by appointing two new Lecturers. The successful candidates will be scholars with growing international research reputation and commitment to delivering high quality teaching.  We welcome applications from across the broad spectrum of Statistics, and particularly from candidates whose research could link with existing statistical strengths in St Andrews, including Ecological and Environmental Statistics, Medical Statistics, and statistical ‘omics’. We are especially keen to appoint candidates with strength in statistical methodology and candidates with interests in the integration of machine learning methods and statistical inference methods.

We welcome applications from candidates who hold a PhD in Statistics or a closely related discipline, and have a track record of high quality research and publications in statistics, or a related area compatible with research interests of current staff.  Candidates should also have teaching experience at Undergraduate or Postgraduate level, have experience applying relevant analytical skills and teaching techniques to a wide range of learners, have good communication skills, and share our desire to educate and inform students. Experience in curriculum development in Statistics, Mathematics or in similar disciplines will be an advantage, as will demonstrable ability to work in a team.

For informal enquiries, we encourage those considering applying to contact the Head of School, Professor Mark Chaplain (mathshos@st-andrews.ac.uk), co-Head of the Statistics Division, Professor Len Thomas (len.thomas@st-andrews.ac.uk), or the Deputy Head of School, Dr Antonia Wilmot-Smith (aw37@st-andrews.ac.uk).

We are fully committed to equality and diversity in our recruitment and employment policies.  We operate family-friendly hours for core meetings and are happy to discuss flexible working arrangements for staff.

Applications are particularly welcome from women, people from the Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BAME) community and other protected characteristics who are underrepresented in academic posts at the University.

Equality, diversity and inclusion are at the heart of the St Andrews experience. We strive to create a fair and inclusive culture demonstrated through our commitment to diversity awards (Athena Swan, Carer Positive, LGBT Charter, Race Charters and Stonewall). We celebrate diversity by promoting profiles of BAME, LGBTIQ+ staff and supporting networks including the Staff BAME Network; Staff with Disabilities Network; Staff LGBTIQ+ Network; and the Staff Parents & Carers Network.
