Professor – AC2745MR

The School of Economics & Finance is part of Scotland's first university, with an established reputation as one of Europe's leading and most distinctive centres for research and teaching.

By fostering an inclusive and collegial environment where all staff and students can thrive and achieve their best, the School delivers outstanding research and teaching in all areas of Economics and Finance and was ranked joint tenth in the UK in terms of research outputs in the Research Excellence Framework in 2014 and sixth in the UK for student satisfaction in the National Student Survey in 2021.

We are now seeking to recruit a Professor to further strengthen our position as a leading centre for research and teaching in Economics and Finance. The position is open to specialists in any area of Economics or Finance, but the School particularly aims to build leadership in areas which develop its existing strengths in Applied Micro, Finance, Micro Theory and Macroeconomics. The primary criteria for appointment will be evidence of an internationally recognised research record, proven ability in academic leadership, a clear programme of anticipated research activity for the coming years, and a significant research funding record. Applications are particularly welcome from candidates who can demonstrate strengths in research impact.

The successful candidate will be an outstanding scholar of international standing with a track record of excellent publications, PhD supervision and leading high quality externally funded research projects. The position will play an important role in strengthening current and future leadership within the School.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to the Head of School, Professor Alan Sutherland (ajs10@st-andrews.ac.uk) or Dr Maria Chiara Iannino (mci@st-andrews.ac.uk). Applications are particularly welcome from women, people from the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic community, and other protected characteristics who are under-represented in academic posts at the University. Equality, diversity and inclusion are at the heart of the St Andrews experience. We strive to create a fair and inclusive culture demonstrated through our commitment to diversity awards (Athena Swan, Carer Positive, LGBT Charter, Race Charters and Stonewall). We celebrate diversity by promoting profiles of BAME, LGBTIQ+ staff and supporting networks including the Staff BAME Network; Staff with Disabilities Network; Staff LGBTIQ+ Network; and the Staff Parents & Carers Network.
