Asbestos Officer - AD2174R1HM

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a positive and self-motivated ASBESTOS OFFICER within the Estates Department of the University as part of a small team assisting the Asbestos Manager with the ongoing management of asbestos across the University estate, undertaking survey/inspection work to identify asbestos containing material and supporting the development and maintenance of the University asbestos register.

You should have attained the BOHS P402 in surveying and strategies for asbestos in buildings and ideally possess the BOHS P405 qualification on the management of asbestos in buildings. You will have extensive industry knowledge with experience of planning and conducing management / refurbishment and demolition surveys. You will be experienced in carrying out asbestos material and priority risk assessments and at critically assessing asbestos reports and documentation and extracting key information.

You should possess good technical, management, organisational, people management and client facing skills.  You should have excellent knowledge of Health and Safety issues relating to asbestos, ideally with certification / qualification .

You should be an excellent communicator, verbal and written, have excellent interpersonal, analytical and IT skills.  You should have the eagerness to deliver a continuously improving safety culture and you will be a strong and influential communicator at all levels.

In 2019 the University will establish purpose built office accommodation at Eden Campus, Guardbridge by St Andrews, to provide a state of the art working environment for a number of our Professional Services Units. It is anticipated that up to 350 Professional Services staff from a range of Units will be based in the new development at Guardbridge. 

This post will be primarily based at the Eden Campus at Guardbridge but will involve work in all University buildings.
