Lecturer in Computational Mathematics/Statistics – AC2273RNB

The School of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of St Andrews is seeking to enhance its approach to teaching through re-developing the way computing in Mathematics and Statistics is taught across its curriculum.  In order to support this updated approach, the School is seeking a full-time lecturer to lead teaching activities in Mathematical and Statistical Computing.  The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to delivering high quality teaching, particularly in the manner in which technology-enhanced learning is used in to aid students’ comprehension across Mathematics and Statistics.  Applications are therefore invited from individuals with a background in any area of Mathematics or Statistics.  For an appointment to an Education and Research contract, a research expertise that links with one of the School’s current research groups is beneficial.  

This role will focus on leading the strategic modernisation of the School’s approach to computing within the teaching of Mathematics and Statistics, convening and developing large computing modules as well as planning, standardising and implementing an updated approach to how the School utilises online technology within its teaching.  The role will actively identify and integrate technology enhanced learning options into the School’s curriculum, developing effective, efficient and engaging computational environments which will enhance student experience.  

The successful candidate can be appointed to an Education or Education and Research focused contract.  For Education focused roles the individual will have an interest in pedagogy in Mathematics and/or Statistics, for an Education and Research contract the successful candidate will be a scholar with a growing international research reputation in Mathematics, Statistics or pedagogy research.   

Candidates should hold a PhD in Mathematics, Statistics or a cognate discipline.  Excellent teaching skills and an enthusiasm for promoting innovation in teaching and sharing of best practice is essential as is a commitment to computing in mathematics.  For appointment to an Education and Research contract the successful candidate have research expertise linked to one of the School’s current research groups.
