Laboratory Technician – TG1302HM

Applications are sought for a committed Laboratory Technician to work with Dr Andrea Burke conducting research for a UKRI-NERC funded project entitled “Figuring Out how to Reconstruct Common Era forcing of climate by VOLcanoes with novel data and modelling approaches (FORCE-VOL)”.  This exciting opportunity is part of a collaborative project working with colleagues at Durham University, University of Oslo, and the British Antarctic Survey to improve our records of volcanic forcing of climate. The primary duties will be to prepare and measure ice core samples for sulfur isotopes by multicollector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, analyse data, and prepare reports. Instrument troubleshooting, method development, and training of postgraduate students will also be required.  

 

The successful applicant will have a Bachelors or Masters or PhD degree in Earth Science or Chemistry or related field with significant chemistry/geochemistry laboratory experience, including relevant analytical techniques.  

 

The post is available for 3 years starting 1 February 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter.
