Research Fellow in Precision Measurement with Optically Trapped Particles and Laser Speckle – AR2385DD

Applications are invited for a Research Fellow to work on an EPSRC-funded programme grant.  The work is based within the Optical Manipulation Group in the School of Physics and Astronomy  (https://opticalmanipulationgroup.wp.st-andrews.ac.uk). The group aims to build upon a range of internationally recognized work in the area of photonics and its applications at St Andrews. The specific topic areas of this post are: optical trapping with novel trapping materials and geometries; and rotational levitated optomechanics in vacuum; and laser speckle metrology for precision measurement of light fields, in fundamental physics and in applications including environmental sensing.

We are particularly interested in researchers with prior experience in one or more of: optical trapping, particularly in vacuum; cavity optomechanics; advanced microscopy and imaging; quantum technology; laser speckle metrology; light propagation in complex media. The post is for up to 24 months, subject to satisfactory completion of a 15-month probationary period.

The post-holder will be required to undertake both experimental work and numerical studies.

Informal enquiries (NOT full applications) to: Professor Kishan Dholakia, kd1@st-andrews.ac.uk

Applications are particularly welcome from women, people from the Black, Asian, Minority or Ethnic (BAME) community and other protected characteristics who are under-represented in research posts at the University.

The University is committed to equality for all, demonstrated through our working on diversity awards (ECU Athena SWAN/Race Charters; Carer Positive; LGBT Charter; and Stonewall).  More details can be found at http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/hr/edi/diversityawards/.
