Research Fellow in Raman Spectroscopy in Complex Media – AR2384DD
Applications are
invited for a Research Fellow to work on an European Union funded project to develop
multimodal tools for biomedical imaging and sensing and food security. The work is based within the Optical Manipulation
Group in the School of Physics and Astronomy
(https://opticalmanipulationgroup.wp.st-andrews.ac.uk).
The group aims to build upon a range of internationally recognized work in the
area of photonics and its applications at St Andrews. The specific topic area
of this post is Raman spectroscopy and its integration with other measurement
techniques in biophotonics, and for monitoring adulteration of food and drink
products.
We are particularly
interested in researchers with prior experience in Raman spectroscopy, along
with one or more of: probe design for disease diagnostics; multiphoton imaging;
light sheet imaging; algorithms and methods for fast correction of optical
aberrations through scattering media; imaging through multi-mode fibre; or the
development and application of numerical methods of deep learning or multivariate
analysis. The post is for up to two years, subject to satisfactory completion
of a 15-month probationary period.
The post-holder will
be required to undertake both experimental work and numerical studies. They
will play a leading role in developing and implementing new sensing modalities.
The imaging will be conducted with a range of biological samples, including human
tissue, cells, bacteria and a variety of other substances. The work will address
challenges in antimicrobial resistance, cancer diagnosis and food security.
Informal enquiries
(NOT full applications) to: Professor Kishan Dholakia, kd1@st-andrews.ac.uk
Applications
are particularly welcome from women, people from the Black, Asian, Minority or
Ethnic (BAME) community and other protected characteristics who are
under-represented in research posts at the University.
The University is
committed to equality for all, demonstrated through our working on diversity
awards (ECU Athena SWAN/Race Charters; Carer Positive; LGBT Charter; and
Stonewall). More details can be found at
